From airport to the city

There are several ways to get to Kyiv from Boryspil airport. You can get there by bus from the stop near the exit of Terminal D (€ 3.1 per ticket), by train from the station to the right of Terminal D (€ 3.1), or by taxi (≈ € 10–16).

Transport

We advise you to explore the city by traveling on vintage trams. However, it is better to go by subway, municipal buses, or minibuses to get somewhere quickly. The fare for all transport is approximately € 0.3.

If you plan to stay in the city for a long time, you can buy a travel card for 10–50 trips. It will save money (the card itself costs € 1.6).

Interesting historical places

Start your journey through the city from its center – Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti) and Khreschatyk Street. Listen to street musicians, drink coffee and see the beautiful buildings all around you.

You can continue the walk to Andrew's Descent, strikingly different from Khreshchatyk in comfort and antiquity. We recommend visiting the One Street Museum, which houses ancient exhibits, books, paintings, photos, and documents related to the history of this place. Following the street, you will arrive at the Podil district. Here, you’ll find one of the oldest educational institutions in Ukraine, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, founded in 1615.

From Podil, you can walk to the bright neighborhood of Vozdvyzhenka and take Instagram photos.

We also recommend going to the neo-Gothic Church of St. Nicholas. It is currently closed to visitors because of a fire, but the appearance of the building is worth a long stop.

Eating establishments

Kyiv will surprise you with a variety of eating establishments and an assortment of delicious dishes. Be sure to try traditional Ukrainian cuisine – borsch with pampushkas (non-sweet donuts), potato pancakes with sour cream, pancakes, and pierogi (dumplings) with different fillings (cherries, cheese, cabbage and mushrooms, or potatoes). We recommend enjoying these meals in the center, the Upper Town, or Podil. Local alcoholic drinks in Kyiv include homemade liqueurs, craft beers, and Ukrainian wines.

Accommodation

In Kyiv, you'll find accommodations for all tastes and every budget. An overnight stay in a hostel costs € 10–12, hotels usually charge € 40–50, and suits are available starting at € 150.

Where to go nearby

Neither Kyiv nor its surroundings will bore you. You can rent a bike and ride around large, landscaped "Dobropark", then bask in nature and enjoy a small picnic.

If you like history, you won’t want to miss Kievan Rus park, adorned with wooden fortifications that seem ancient. There are also amazing reconstructed Middle Ages battle scenes that will captivate you for hours on end – maybe even the whole day!
