From airport to the city

The SIT shuttle runs from Ciampino Airport. A one-way ticket costs € 6, round trip – € 11. The advantage of the shuttle is the presence of a luggage compartment and no need to change transport to get to the center. You can check the schedule here. However, you can get there by regular city buses No.520 (with a change to metro line A) and 720 (with a change to metro line B). Ticket prices are at standard fares.

You can also take a train. But you need to get to the station by bus. A ticket (bus + train) costs € 2.5, and in total, the trip lasts about an hour.

The fixed fare for taxis in most locations is € 48. You can book a car directly on the airport website. Please note that cars must only be white and with checkers.

Transport

Roman public transport is represented by buses, trams, metro, and city rail. A 100 minutes ticket costs € 1.5, but you can buy a day (€ 7), two-day (€ 12.5), and three-day (€ 18) tickets.

Interesting historical places

It is impossible to explore Rome in even a few weeks, so we have selected a few best places to visit.

The most beautiful squares are Piazza Venezia at the foot of the Capitoline (where the incredible Vittoriano monument is), Piazza Navona with three fountains, Piazza della Repubblica and Piazza del Popolo. The latter is also called the poplar one because of the legend of a poplar grove in this place. And besides, in Latin, populus means both people and poplars). By the way, next to this square, there is an observation deck Il Pincio.

Speaking of observation decks, it is also worth noting the ones on the Capitoline Museum roof and the Victor Emmanuel II Monument nearby.

The most beautiful churches and cathedrals are Trinità dei Monti at the Spanish Steps, built in the tradition of Romano-Gothic art, and the Basilica of Sant'Agnese in Agone (be sure to go inside). And, of course, the Vatican (keep in mind that museums are open till 5:30 p.m.)

And also the most famous and most elegant Trevi Fountain, almost 26 m high, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, and Castel Sant'Angelo of bizarre shape (where, by the way, there is another observation deck). And this is only part of what you can see in Rome. So, even a few days are not enough to comprehend this majestic city.

Gelato ice cream is a must-try in Rome. As for other dishes, we will not be unique – lasagna, pizza, and pasta. Rome has a rapidly developing "take away culture", so you can buy many traditional dishes as fast food.

Where to go nearby

From Rome, you can go to the small town of Tivoli for a day. It is known, first of all, for its villas d'Este, Hadrian's, and Gregoriana. These are, without exaggeration, architectural masterpieces, and the first two buildings are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The second location is Lake Bracciano, where you can enjoy nature and go on an excursion to the majestic Castello Orsini-Odescalchi.
