From airport to the city

You can get to the city by bus, taxi or on the subway from Valencia Airport. In particular, you can take bus No.150 or the red (third) metro line. The trip will cost as much as any trip around the city.

A taxi costs € 20–25, and after midnight it is possible to ride only on it.

Transport

In Valencia, you can buy special tourist cards that give unlimited travel on public transport and free pass or discounts on tickets to some museums. The card price depends on the period of validity, the number of museums, and the size of discounts on the entrance ticket.

The usual ticket prices are as follows:

— To use the metro and trams, you need to buy a top-up card for € 1. Tickets cost € 1.4 within one zone, € 1.9 within two zones, € 2.6 within three and € 3.6 within four. You can also buy ten tickets for € 10 (including the cost of the card).

A bus or metro ticket is valid for one hour and allows you to change to other modes of transport.

Interesting historical places

Valencia is a combination of Arab, Romanesque, and Gothic architecture. However, we suggest getting to know the city from the more modern part – from the City of Arts and Sciences. The location itself is the perfect spot for symmetrical photographs, and you can spend the whole day in museums and parks. A huge oceanographic park with sharks, penguins, and hippos, a science museum, the Queen Sofia Palace of the Arts, a popular science cinema, and a park with the reclining statue of Gulliver and the Royal Gardens nearby…Visiting this place is sure to be one of the highlights of this trip.

After this museum and park immersion, you can go for a walk around the city. Here is a list of must-see attractions:

— Cathedral combines elements of Baroque, Neoclassicism, Renaissance, and Romanesque style. In addition, a bowl is kept inside, which is considered the Holy Grail. You can also climb the El Miguelete tower and admire the city from there.

— Archaeological Museum. Even if you are tired of museums, we advise you to lower your head near it because the ruins of the ancient Roman city are under the glass.

— Palace of the Marqués de Dos Aguas. It is an impressive building with the Rococo entrance, framed by statues. And inside, you can see the authentic halls of the 19th century, ancient carriages, and visit the Museum of Ceramics with national dishes and tiles.

— Mercado Central market with an energetic Spanish atmosphere and full stalls.

Establishments

Valencia is best known for horchata, an iced drink made from almonds, chufa tubers, sesame seeds, barley, or rice. The city even has horchata establishments (horchatería), specializing in the production of this drink for several decades. You can take a fartons to horchata, oblong buns, covered with icing.

And for lunch or dinner, we recommend ordering a Valencian paella and washing it down with a light sangria. And we advise you to try a real delicacy – Jamon with melon, as well as many dishes of mussels, squid, and shrimp.

Where to go nearby

If you come in the hot season, you can go to the resort towns nearby: Gandia, Denia, and Calpe. And it would be best if you went to El Castell de Guadalest to see the mountains and feel the medieval atmosphere. Mountains surround this town, and nearby there are an old castle and a picturesque lake of the same name.
