From airport to the city

The journey from the airport to Larnaca is short; the distance is only 4 km. Take one of the buses No.407, 417, 419, 425, and 429 which depart every hour from 6 a.m. till 22:45. The ticket costs € 1.5-3. And you can take a taxi right at the airport exit from € 10.

Transport

A single bus ticket in Larnaca costs € 1.5 (€ 2.5 at night), for one day – € 5. You can also buy a 7-day ticket for € 20.

In addition, it would be a good idea to travel across Cyprus by bike (€ 6-8 per day), scooter (≈ € 15 per day), or car (≈ € 40 per day).

Interesting historical places

In Larnaca, you can see both the architecture of Orthodox churches and mosques. In particular, visit the Church of Saint Lazarus, built in the Byzantine style in the 9th century, and the Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque, the largest in Cyprus.

Salt Lake stretches not far from the mosque. If you are lucky, you will see pink flamingos there and other birds unusual for Ukraine.

Funs of fortifications will also have something to do – on a tour of the 13th-century fortress built by the sea.

And finally, you can immerse yourself in an even older history – in particular, explore the ruins of the ancient Greek city-state of Kition.

Among the beaches, we recommend the one with the Finikoudes palm alley. It is marked with a “blue flag”, which indicates its safety and cleanliness. And you can also try a tourist attraction – Mackenzie Beach, where planes fly low every 10-20 minutes.

Establishments

Establishments serving national dishes are away from the center. Try souvlaki (small pieces of meat and vegetables served in pita), as well as baked fish.

Here, as in Greece, they love “gyros” – a variety of fast food, prepared from chicken or pork in different sauces and served in pita too.

Accommodation

For a quiet holiday, choose areas of Oroklini and Pyla. And if you like nightlife, rent accommodation near Mackenzie Beach.

A place in a hostel costs from € 10, a room in two-star hotel costs from € 20, and a five-star hotel room price starts from € 100. You can rent an apartment from € 40.

Where to go nearby

The majestic Stavrovouni Monastery is 40 km from Larnaca. It is not just a religious building but also a full-fledged fortification – moreover, at the top of the mountain. So the breathtaking views open up.

You can also go to the ancient mountain villages Lefkara and Kato Drys. Lefkara is a stone settlement with lovely streets and cozy terraces in establishments (Cypriot villages do not look like Ukrainian ones). Kato Drys is a similar picturesque settlement with low-rise stone buildings, where you can also go for a wine tasting.

And from the seaside, it is worth looking at the sunken Zenobia ship, part of which protrudes above the water. And then enjoy the turquoise lagoons, white beaches, and rocky shores in Ayia Napa.
