Transport

Interesting historical places

Lviv is known for its many elegant buildings. Here is a list of buildings that we recommend seeing:

— The Latin Cathedral, or Cathedra, as the locals call it. Since the building has been constructed over the centuries, it combines Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and eclecticism. This is one of the oldest churches in Lviv and a real symbol of the city.

— Dominican Church. This is another landmark of Lviv, and it is not far from central Rynok Square. It is a Gothic temple with columns at the main entrance. The walls have slightly blackened over time. However, this does not spoil the look and even befits such an old building.

— Bernardine Church and Monastery. This is a building with whimsical curls and many statues on the facade. We advise you to go inside to see the painted walls and ceiling.

— St. George’s Cathedral. The temple has many elements on the facade, so we recommend you go inside to take a closer look. It is also worth taking a walk along Horodotska Street at night to enjoy the view of the illuminated building. Due to its location on a hill, the temple rises above all of the houses.

— Church of Sts. Olha and Elizabeth. This is a neo-Gothic building with elegant sharp spires. This is one of the tallest buildings in the city – 88 m, and you can climb the tower to enjoy the panorama of Lviv.

Establishments

In Lviv, they like to open establishments with pleasant interiors and to combine them with entertainment. Therefore, do not be surprised if you find yourself in a medieval dungeon, a guerrilla hideout, a mine, or if you need to bargain with a waiter.

From the dishes, we recommend trying potato pancakes or grated cakes (potato tortillas), mushroom soup, syrnyk (similar to cheesecake but not the same), pierogi (dumplings) with various fillings. Homemade infusions and tinctures of various herbs, fruits, and berries are also popular in Lviv.

Where to go nearby

You can go to the cozy little town of Zhovkva. Many old tiny houses and a whole castle have been preserved here. In short, this is a great place to relax from the hustle and bustle of big cities for a day.

And there are also the Carpathians nearby so that you can go, for example, to the Skole Beskids Nature Park. It is vast and wonderful throughout, so you can easily choose several locations to spend a day or more.
