From airport to the city

Interesting historical places

The city itself is a fascinating historical place. So it would be best if you took the time for a leisurely walk through the center of Lviv, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This part of the city is utterly pedestrian except for the tramline, which stretches across the main square named Market. Drop by random establishments to sample local cuisine or liqueurs, enjoy the view of old houses and street music, which you can hear here even in not very warm weather.

The houses of prominent Ukrainian persons Mykhailo Hrushevsky and Ivan Franko are also located in Lviv. The latter, by the way, translated Hebrew and Old Hebrew texts into Ukrainian.

If you want to spend time in nature, you should visit Stryiskyi Park (Kilinski Park), where squirrels eat nuts right from the palms. Or park Shevchenko Grove where, in addition to nature, you can look at samples of Ukrainian peasants’ houses from different regions and eras.

Many dishes from all-Ukrainian and regional cuisines are served in Lviv. We advise you to try Lviv curd cake (it does not taste like cheesecake at all), grated platzki (potato pancakes), pierogi (i.e., dumplings), and baked river trout. In Lviv, there are also several establishments cooking dishes from kosher products.

If you want to taste the local alcohol, do not ignore tinctures and liqueurs. You can find them in almost every establishment – both herbal and fruit and berry.

Where to go nearby

If you have spare time, you can take the Castles of the Lviv region route: Zhovkva, Olesko, Pidhirtsi, Zolochiv, Svirz, and Stare Selo.

Also, within an hour's drive from Lviv, there is the Domazhir rehabilitation center for brown bears. It takes care of bears previously kept in circuses, zoos, hotels, restaurants, etc.

And, of course, the Carpathians. For example, you can get to Tustan or Dovbush Rocks in a few hours.
