Just three hours by plane from Kyiv to Yerevan — and full of impressions weekend or vacation is guaranteed if you look for some unique local atmosphere, spirits, delicious food, and breathtaking landscapes.

Sightseeing attractions

The acquaintance with the city is better to start by strolling through it. Locals advise to walk along the main pedestrian street Severny Prospect (Northern Avenue), Ploschad Respubliki (Republic Square) with its singing fountains, and be sure to visit the Erebuni Fortress, the Cascade open-air sculpture museum. From the upper platform of the Cascade and the observation deck of the Mother Armenia Monument, a magnificent view of the city and the biblical Ararat opens, especially at dusk.

The Matenadaran, a repository of ancient manuscripts dating from the 5th century, and the Yervand Kochar Museum are also worth visiting. A walk through the old streets of the city and the local markets GUM (for food) and Vernissage (for souvenirs) will completely immerse you in the local atmosphere.

Food

It won't be easy to complete the puzzle without trying the local cuisine. Shashlik, kebab, kyufta, Armenian dolma, and other traditional and European dishes can be tasted almost at every step. Tavern Yerevan and Karas are some of the most popular chains of gastronomic points in the capital.

On average, lunch/dinner in a decent restaurant will cost $10-20, tasting Armenian drinks will be about $10 in addition. Street food — $ 2-3. For those with a sweet tooth, in addition to traditional sweets like baklava with walnuts, which are better bought in small private bakeries, you should definitely try the legendary Yerevan donuts with creams and jams in the Grand Candy confectionery shop Ponchikanoc. Here you can collect a whole heap for $2.

Things to see out of town

If you have time and inspiration, you can visit Lake Sevan, Tatev with its so-named monastery, and Vagharshapat (formerly Echmiadzin), the church capital of Armenia.

If you want something more extreme, take a ride on the Tatev aerial cableway or walk along the suspension bridge to the cave city of Khndzoresk. Even more emotions and adrenaline can be found in Yell Extreme Park in the town of Yenokavan.
