Cheap flights from Kyiv (KBP) - to Tirana (TIA)

An eccentric Albanian capital. Even if not as pompous as the neighboring Balkan beauties, but very authentic and true to its own traditions. Mosques and Soviet symbols, wide squares and local markets. This city is about contrasts and the ability to see beauty in the ordinary things.

How to get

The airport is located 11 kilometers from the center. To get to the city you can use:

— Car or taxi. Book a private transfer that will meet you at the terminal exit, or find a taxi on the spot. The cost of such a trip will be approximately €15*. At night, the rate is higher.

— Bus. They run daily, from 6 am to 6 pm. The cost of a single trip will be about €2*. Travel time is about 30 minutes, and you can purchase a ticket from the driver. Please note that you will not be able to pay with a card, so find cash in advance.

What to see

— The Clock Tower is one of the symbols of the city. It was built by Ottoman architects in 1822.

— Ethem Bey is an 18th century Ottoman mosque. This is one of the oldest buildings in the city and one of the few religious buildings that survived the communist period.

— Skanderbeg Square is the central square of Tirana, dedicated to the national hero of Albania. It has 40,000 square meters surrounded by monumental buildings.

— Tanner is an 18th century Ottoman stone bridge. It is one of the oldest buildings in Tirana.

— Church of the Sacred Heart is the oldest Catholic church in the city, built in 1939.

— The Pyramid is a strange building from the times of communism, built as a museum for Enver Hoxha. Now it is empty.

What to eat

Albania cultivates delicious, but most importantly hearty and homemade cuisine. Spices and a variety of flavors are very popular here. Try the marinated onion stew, quark casseroles and, of course, burek.

Lunch at a decent establishment will cost from €15*, and a quick street snack can be found for €1-2*.

Explore (things to see out of the city)

— Gjirokastra. A city-museum in the south of Albania, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. You can get there by bus or minibus from Tirana. They leave from the Southern Bus Station. The journey takes about 3.5 hours.

— Saranda. It is a large resort town on the shores of the Ionian Sea, which is being actively developed. 2.5 hours on the way — and you are by the sea.

— Shkoder. Little Vilnius in the middle of Albania. And also, this is the oldest city in the country, which is comfortably located on the shores of Lake Skadar.
