From airport to the city

The city is located 17 km from Mother Teresa Airport. You can get to the center by shuttle (≈ € 2) or taxi (≈ € 20). Tirana Rinas Express Bus runs every hour from 6 am to 6 pm from the airport to Skanderbeg Square in the city center.

Transport

It is best to travel around the city by bus (≈ € 0.3). However, it is possible to travel in this way till 10 pm. You can also rent a bike from Ecovolis service for € 0.5 per hour. Taxis around the city cost from € 2.5 during the day and from € 4 at night.

Interesting historical places

Many of Tirana`s sights are in the center, which is being actively reconstructed. So first of all, visit the main square of Skanderbeg, which Italian architects designed. It also houses the 18th-century Et'hem Bey Mosque, which symbolizes the revival of religious freedom in the country. We recommend climbing the 35-meter clock tower which stands nearby to see the city from above.

And look around the Mother Teresa Square, who, by the way, was born in Albania. There are three universities and the National Archaeological Museum in this one of the largest squares of the city. Concerts, which can be watched from stationary stands, are also often held here.

And to learn more about the history and culture of the country, visit the National History Museum. Also pay attention to the bunkers that were built by order of Emperor and dictator Enver Hoxha over 700,000 across the country.

In Tirana, you can find establishments for every taste and budget. For example, to eat a delicious kebab for € 2 in a diner or have dinner at one of the most expensive establishments in the city, where tables revolve around the tower, and visitors can explore the panorama (dinner will cost from € 100 per person).

It would be best if you tried the stewed veal, baked fish, stuffed peppers, moussaka, and roasted eggplant according to traditional recipes. Also, try a local strong alcoholic beverage – rakia (brandy), if desired.
