From airport to the city

The easiest way to get from the airport to Tivat is by taxi (from € 5). You can also take a bus (≈ € 2–4), but you will have to walk about a kilometer to the stop (at the airport, turn left, the stop next to the yellow "mushrooms").

Transport

In Montenegro, cities are not big, so that you can walk around the settlement on foot in most cases. Otherwise, you can take a taxi, which costs approximately € 1.5 per 1 km. Given the short distances, such a trip will not cost much money.

It's nice to walk along the Tivat Pine embankment with a view of the mountains. Zupa Park is also a good place for walks. It is not very cultured, but it is even better to be closer to nature in the mountains. Botanical Park Tivatska Solila, where more than 100 bird species nest, is also suitable for this purpose.

And if after that you miss civilization, you can visit Porto Montenegro and have a look at the luxury yachts and the Maritime Heritage Museum, where you will find a 50-year-old P-821 Heroj submarine.

The coastal area of Montenegro once belonged to the Venetians, so the traditions of Italian cuisine are widespread here. To taste purely Montenegrin dishes, you should carefully look them in the sea area or climb the mountains, where authentic Montenegrin settlements have been preserved.

Among such dishes, it is worth trying čorba soup (it can be of meat, but we recommend fish one), Njeguški pršut (dried meat similar to prosciutto; named after the village of Njeguši). And here, you can also taste local variations of banosh – wet kačamak and stuffed cabbage – japraci.

The cost of housing in Montenegro is highly dependent on the season. In summer, a hotel room in Tivat costs from € 50, and an apartment from € 45. In winter the price is about 25% lower.

Where to go nearby

Not the highest mountains of Montenegro are in Tivat, so do not miss the opportunity to visit Kotor, one of the most beautiful cities in the country. This once Venetian settlement still retains its Italian charm to this day. And the mountains overhanging the city and the Bay of Kotor are so close that it takes your breath away. Another lovely town nearby is Perast. Its peculiarity is that in winter only a few hundred people live there and in summer almost all the people are tourists or staff arriving for the season. Perast is also cozy in the Italian manner, and from here, you can see the bay in all its glory.
